My Tourism Glossary
As you might already know, I have been studying Tourism at Montmorency College for 4 years. In Tourism program, we learn about the different sides of tourism. We learn about interesting destinations around the world, how to sell them to the public, how to create travel packages and even how to use codes for reservations. I will mostly use tourism-related words on my posts, so this glossary would be very helpful to fully understand my blog. Each word in this glossary are commonly used in tourism. Learning those words could be helpful for your next trip!
- accommodation
- noun
- A room, group of rooms, or building in which someone may live or stay.
- Example: The number of ACCOMMODATION in Bath is nearly twice as much as Oxford.

- noun
- A desirable or useful feature or facility of a building or place.
- Example: The quality of facilities and AMENITIES in the hotels is important to guests.

- noun
- A place which draws visitors by providing something of interest or pleasure.
- Example: The Old Port of Montreal is a popular tourist ATTRACTION in the city.

- backpacker
- noun
- A person who travels or hikes carrying their belongings in a backpack.

- booking
- noun
- An act of reserving accommodations, travel, etc., or of buying a ticket in advance.
- Example: Premier Travel Inn provides direct sell to customer mainly through online BOOKING.

- noun
- The act of reporting one's presence and registering, typically at an airport or hotel.
- Example: Technology has spread into the different departments and innovations such as hand held POS systems for food and beverage operations and mobile wireless CHECK-IN systems for the convenience of guests.

- noun
- A hotel plan that provides a continental breakfast daily.
- Example: The hotel offers a CONTINENTAL PLAN.

- noun
- A flight that begins and ends in the same country.
- Example: Mary took a DOMESTIC FLIGHT from Montreal to Toronto.

- noun
- A vacation.
- Example: We planned a family GETAWAY.

- noun
- The most popular time of year at a resort, hotel, or tourist attraction, when prices are highest.
- Example: The HIGH SEASON in Montreal is in summer.

- The activity of going for long walks, especially in the country or woods.
- Example: Activities in Kranjska Gora - winter sports in the winter and HIKING during the spring and summer.

- noun
- An establishment which provides inexpensive food and lodging for a specific group of people, such as students, workers, or travelers.
- Example: They have an interesting mix of serviced accommodation ranging from large corporate hotels to very high quality specialist hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs, and some self-catering properties and HOSTEL accommodation.

- A planned route or journey.
- Example: 82% of tourists will decide their ITINERARY first rather than simply follow package holiday.

- noun
- A form of transportation that travels regularly between two places.
- Example: The 10 o'clock SHUTTLE from Montreal to Quebec.

- visa
- noun
- An official mark or stamp on a passport that allows someone to enter or leave a country usually for a particular reason.
- Example: Colombian residents need a VISA to enter to Canada.

- all-inclusive
- adjective
- Including everything or everyone.
- Example: The third group from Shoemaker's research was the "older set", who liked their trips filled with different activities and liked to stay in all-inclusive places.

- package tour
- noun
- A vacation organized by a travel agent, with arrangements for transportation, accommodations, etc., made at an inclusive price.
- Example: Our package tour to Mediterranean sea cruise can offer best places to see and amazingly gorgeous cuisine.

- guided tour
- noun
- If someone takes you on a guided tour, they show you around a place of interest and tell you all about it.
- Example: We paid for a guided tour of Mexico City.

- ecotourism
- noun
- Tourism directed toward exotic, often threatened, natural environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife.
- Example: Ecotourism is about uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel.

- resort
- noun
- A place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose.
- Example: Kranjska Gora is a year-round mountain tourist resort as well as an important winter sports resort with a variety of skiing slopes available.
